Our Story
The Arana Kidney Recovery Foundation was born from our family’s journey through kidney disease, transplantation, and the financial challenges that often accompany serious illness.
My husband, Alexson, received a kidney transplant years ago, giving us many precious years together. Along the way, we also faced the unexpected challenge of brain cancer and surgery, followed by years of continued medical care and recovery.
Today, after his transplanted kidney has begun to fail, Alexson is preparing for a second kidney transplant. Once again, we’re navigating dialysis, travel, temporary relocation, and the overwhelming expenses that insurance does not cover.
Through this experience, I, Whitney, have seen firsthand how emotionally, physically, and financially exhausting this journey can be. Insurance may cover the surgery, but it does not cover the cost of everyday life—lodging, gas, groceries, childcare, and lost wages.
Our story took an unexpected turn when we shared our journey on the “We Are Here to Help” podcast. Through that experience, we were embraced by an extraordinary community of compassionate people who offered their expertise, encouragement, and support.
Because of those connections—and the generosity of people who believed in this mission—the Arana Kidney Recovery Foundation became possible.
We created this organization so that other families facing kidney transplantation can focus on healing instead of financial stress.
Our prayer is simple: that no family has to walk this road alone.
From our family to yours, we are here to help.
With faith, hope, and the generosity of donors like you, this mission is possible.
Gratefully,
Whitney & Alexson Arana
